Airell-[Experimental Story]

Chapter One: Interference

The foam of the sea crashed over my ankles. I stood holding a rain coat tightly around me. The wind whipped my hair around my seemingly frozen face. I was a monster and I couldn’t stand who I was-more so, WHAT I was. Everything around me seemed so wrong. Death and pain seemed to follow me with each step I took into the sea. I was loved by one person, at least. A human. But she would never follow me in my adventures. She would not do the things that I would do for her. She was just human…but the best human…the best girl I had ever met. I wondered if I was doing the right thing as I stepped farther into the sea until the waves beat against shoulders. And that’s when I heard her…her cry of pain and desperation. I turned slowly to see her with a shawl draped over her shoulders and tears on her face screaming at me.
“Don’t do this Airell!” Jessica shouted, pleading with my already made up mind.
It’s better for us both, Love. I thought. But when I saw her coming towards me, fighting against the elements, my heart began to long for her again. Jessica was having a bit harder time maneuvering in the water than I had. She didn’t have as much strength to fight against the rolling waves as I did.
“Airell, please! It wasn’t your fault!” she pleaded, tripping and splashing into the waves. They sloshed over her face and she gurgled her speech. She sputtered and tried to go again. My heart told me to go to her…to help her not to hurt herself, but it was better for her if I left. Her nightgown stuck to her skin, making her movements harder but she kept fighting. I finally couldn’t take it anymore and ducked beneath the surface. “Airell! No!” I could hear her screaming even with water plugging my ears. My body moved with the water. We were one. I closed my eyes and allowed the water to roll over me.
Movement snapped me out of my peaceful state. I opened my eyes to see Jessica swimming towards me, bubbles flowing from her mouth and her nose. What was I thinking? Jessica didn’t know how to swim. But she was fighting and struggling with the current to get to me. How could I do this to her? I swam to her and clutched her by her waist and brought her to the surface. She coughed up salt water and clung to me, sobbing. I carried her up to shore and laid her down on the sand. She pulled me to her and held on tight as if I was going to leave her again.
“Jessica, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you. I would not have died anyway. I can’t die; you know that, Love.” I said softly, brushing her bright red hair from her face. Her pained green eyes stared up at me with tears welling in them.
“I don’t care. It was scary all the same. Don’t ever do that again, Airell.” She cried, reaching her soft hands up to touch my chilling face.
“I just wish you could understand what it’s like to be afraid of yourself. I’m always afraid of what I’m capable of. I’m always scared that with one wrong move, I could snap you in half and that would be the end of you. I’m scared that I will lose control and take all that you have.” He caressed my neck as he spoke staring longingly at the veins that traveled down it.
“But I know you, Airell, and you wouldn’t hurt me on purpose. If I died because of you…” I growled beneath my breath. Jessica sat up and took my hand, looking straight into my eyes. “If I died because of you, Airell,” she began again. “I could die knowing how much you cared about me and how much you loved me. I would die knowing that you would die for me and I would die for you. You could never, ever hurt me unless you left me for good. Only that would truly hurt me, Airell. I think you know that.”
I looked away from her and down the empty beach that seemed so dead earlier in the evening. With Jessica sitting in front of me, it seemed much more alive.
I nodded and took her face in my hands. I kissed her forehead and then stood. She started to stand as well but I scooped her up into my arms and carried her inside. Nothing was going to separate us and I would make sure of that after seeing her so hurt.

"Losing My Mind"-A Medical Sci-Fi Story

Melanora (or Mel for short) has severe brain damage in her temporal lobe (where memory is stored). She can't remember anything long term. After a few days, she will have to be re-reminded of everything. Losing My Mind is Mel's journal that she began writing after her incident. She wants to remember everything that her best friend, Deanna tells her but she can't. And it frustrates her.
The year is 2020 and medical science is advanced to a point where a brain transplant is possible...but it's never been attempted. The doctor tells her that they can actually remove the damaged part of her brain and replace it with a healthy part.
But what happens when she receives someone else's memories? Was it really the right choice? Who is the person with such a dark past that wanted so badly to erase it that they'd be willing to get their temporal lobe cut out? Can Mel figure it out before it's too late? Can she save the stranger before the insanity slowly kills her?
